Named after the cottonwood trees bordering the Verde River, Cottonwood is less than 9 square miles but has become the commercial center for the Verde Valley with the local Home Depot and Wal-mart. Cottonwood and Verde Village together have reached a population of more than 20,000.
Historic Old Town Cottonwood is continuing restoration and is host to shopping and fine dining.
