Identified by USA Weekend as the number one "Most Beautiful Place in America," Sedona proper consists of 19 square miles and is home to over 11,000 residents.
Sedona, a fairly new city incorporated in 1988. It is divided by two counties - Yavapai County covers south Sedona, and Coconino County covers the north.
Just minutes from Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek, considered part of Sedona by most, is home to another 6,000 residents, and offers 3 golf courses - Sedona Golf Resort, Oak Creek Country Club, and Canyon Mesa. All are public use facilities.
Somewhat of an island, Sedona's growth is limited by over 1.8 million acres of surrounding Coconino National Forest and wilderness areas. This scenic National Forest ranges in elevation from 2,600 feet to Mt. Humphrey's 12,633 feet - the highest in the state. The elevation in Sedona is 4,300 feet.
Sedona hosts over 4 million visitors each year, offering the small town residents big city culture. Magnificent scenery and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities make Sedona the second most popular tourist destination in Arizona, following the Grand Canyon.
Along with the beautiful scenery, the weather is a major factor for Sedona's popularity. With four distinct yet mild seasons, the annual average high and low temperatures are 76.7 and 45.7, with summer average high and low of 96 and 64 - and winter average high and low of 56 and 30.
